Boston & Albany

With radio feed coverage from the Mohawk Valley into Northern New Jersey approaching completion, we will be turning our focus to our next subject: the Boston & Albany, comprised of CSX’s Berkshire & Boston Subs.

While a handful of radio feeds do presently exist for the Boston & Albany, they are relatively spaced out with numerous gaps in coverage. Our project aims to provide complete coverage of the line from Worcester to Selkirk, just like we have done with CSX’s River Sub. The lack of wayside intermediate block signals on the Boston & Albany leads to less signal calling on the radio, which makes it important that every Control Point and defect detector be audible on our feeds to know a train’s location.

As of this writing, we have sites preliminarily identified to cover the entirety of the line from Worcester to Selkirk, but there is always the possibility of needing a gap filler feed in a weak reception area. Regardless, we intend to start work on this project by Summer’s end.

As a part of this project, we may also have opportunities to provide feeds covering the Housatonic Railroad, the Springfield Line, and portions of the Berkshire & Eastern (East Deerfield area and the Conn River Line) and New England Central (within MA & CT).
